WOODBURY GOP COMMITTEE MEETING-3/28/2006

In keeping with my campaign promise of informing you of what goes on behind the scenes of the still closed door Woodbury Republican Committee meetings, I will be making an effort this year to post notes about actions taken at the meetings. However, please note that since everyone (even non Republicans) have access to this site on the World Wide Web I will have to from time to time edit what I can post on here to protect the integrity of the committee and it's candidates.

The Vote: 19 AYES

Chairman Caruso asked Executive Committeeman Donald Siebold to give a report
of what is going on at the county level. Committeeman Siebold stated the county
wishes to start holding the 300 Club raffle fundraiser earlier in the year.
However, no tickets have been distributed yet.

Chairman Caruso stated that he recently attended a meeting of the municipal
chairs. He stated that the Orange County Republican Convention will be held
on May 23rd at the Meadowbrook Lodge in New Windsor. He also heard a presentation
from K. T. McFarland who is running for the United States Senate against incumbent
Democrat Hillary Clinton. Chairman Caruso told us a little about Ms. McFarland
and handed out some literature about her.

Chairman Caruso stated that there is at present a vacancy in the committee in
District 7, due to the resignation of Committeeman David Hasin who became
Town Justice. Three individuals have expressed interest in filling the vacancy

Mrs. Marion Loiola
Mrs. Sheila Beadle
Mrs. Marcy Hasin

Chairman Caruso read letters from the aforementioned candidates.

General discussion on the nominees:

Committeeman Mike Aronowitz feels that we should seek candidates who reside
in the district. He says he represents his home district and recently ran
in the primary election there.

Chairman Relph Caruso stated that it is often difficult to find qualified
committeemen when the selection process is limited to just the district. It
is difficult just finding people period that are willing to do the work.

Committeeman Jim Booth agreed with Chairman Caruso. Mr. Booth stated that
while it would be great to find people who live in the district the important
thing is to find people who are going to work. He said that he once represented
districts in the Town of Tuxedo and that he feels he did more work than some
of the resident Committeemen.

We moved to nominate the committee candidates:

Committeeman Booth nominated SHEILA BEADLE, same being seconded by
committeewoman Stabile.

Nominations were also made for Mrs. Loiola and Mrs. Hasin.

The committee appointed committeeman Roberto Calderin and committeewoman J. Stabile
to tabulate the ballots.

Following the tabulation of the secret ballot the result was as follows:

Mrs. Beadle 9

Mrs. Loiola 9

Mrs. Hasin 1

NO ONE ELECTED

We decided that we would hold a revote after hearing from the candidates for
Sheriff.

The first candidate for Sheriff which presented himself to the committee was
Mr. Thomas Carton of the Town of Monroe.

Mr. Carton handed out literature and spoke at length about his credentials
and critiqued the current incumbent Sheriff. After which Chairman Caruso
asked the members if they had any questions for Mr. Carton.

Committeeman Booth asked Mr. Carton about a rumor going around the county
that he would seek the democratic endorsement for Sheriff. Mr. Carton
stated that he was not "actively" seeking the democratic endorsement but would accept it if it was offered. Committeeman Calderin further questioned Mr. Carton
about his statement to Mr. Booth. Committeeman Calderin basically stated that
are you running as a Republican or Democrat? Mr. Carton stated that he planned
to run as a Republican.

Following Mr. Caton's departure from the meeting the committee heard from
incumbent Sheriff Carl DuBois. Mr. DuBois handed out literature and spoke of his
recent term as Sheriff of Orange County and the progress that has been made since
he took over the post. He also answered some of Mr Carton's criticisms of his
term. He spoke of some of the things he has helped and assisted Woodbury
with over the past 3 years.

Sheriff DuBois answered a number of questions from the members of the committee
about some of Mr. Cartons allegations and other issues during the Sheriff's
tenure.

Following the departure of Sheriff DuBois the committee moved to a second
ballot for the District 7 vacancy. This time the candidates would be the
two top vote getters in the first round, Mrs. Loiola and Mrs. Beadle. Ballots
were distributed and Committeeman Calderin and Committeewoman J. Stabile were
once again designated tellers. The vote result was tabulated and announced
as follows:

Mrs. Beadle 10

Mrs. Loiola 9

Mrs. Sheila Beadle was therefore elected to the District 7 vacancy.

Motion by Committeeman Aronowitz and seconded by Chairman Caruso that
we table the appointment MOTION DEFEATED

Chairman Caruso stated that we have received several letters
from candidates seeking election this year.

The Committee moved to endorse Congresswoman Sue Kelly

The vote 18 AYES 1 NO (Calderin)

The committee endorsed Senator William Larkin and Assemblywoman Nancy
Calhoun ALL VOTING AYE

The committee moved to endorse for Sheriff and the Chairman proceeded to
hand out ballots. Committeeman Booth questioned the chair and stated that
was it not a policy of the committee in the past to endorse county
candidates in a show of hands vote rather than by ballot? The Chairman
stated "no" At which point committeeman Siebold motioned and Chairman
Caruso seconded that the vote be by secret ballot. The chairman did not
call the vote immediately and proceeded to hand out ballots. Committeeman
Booth and others stated that the vote was not had on the question. Chairman
Caruso than called the question on Mr. Siebold's motion. MOTION APPROVED

The voting was to proceed by secret ballot.

Upon which the result was as follows:

Mr. DuBois: 13

Mr. Carton 6

Mr. DuBois received the formal endorsement of the Woodbury Committee.

Chairman Caruso went around the room to ask if members had any comments.

Committeeman Booth asked when the by-laws that were distributed to members
were adopted. Chairman Caruso stated in the 1980's.

Committeewoman G. Gianzero asked that we as members of the committee be given
more time in advance of important issues before the committee like candidate
endorsements. Does not like finding out at the last minute about what is
coming up before the committee.

Committeewoman K. Queenan needs to be reimbursed for laying out the expense
of our post office box. APPROVED

Committeeman Pete Stabile asked when the committee is going to aggressively
start seeking prospective candidates to run for Supervisor. Committeeman
Aronowitz suggested an open house.

The next meeting of the committee will be on Tuesday, April 25th.

Chairman Caruso then lambasted the committee for it's appointment of Sheila
Beadle. He stated that because Mrs. Beadle's boss (Hwy Supt. Stabile) as well
as three Councilmen whom Chairman Caruso feels are also superiors sit on this committee, that her votes on this committee could be compromised. He also stated that because there is a majority of the Town Board members on the committee that the
committee cant discuss "town issues" because he feels it will violate the
open meetings law. Committeeman Booth asked the chair if he is accusing
Mr. Stabile and the councilmen on the committee, Mr. Queenan, Mrs. Gianzero
and Mr. Aronowitz of being the type that would try to influence the vote of
a town employee sitting on this committee. Chairman Caruso said "no" Further
discussion continued on this topic.

Following the discussion the committee ADJOURNED
