A Thank You to All my Supporters, Despite the Results

Well...

We didn't win. I am certainly disappointed by the results. But, I am not so much disappointed for me as I am for the Republicans of District 4 and for Woodbury. My two opponents won after presenting no vision, no platform and I don't even think they walked any part of the district outside their neighborhood.

In the end it came down to the fact that the part of the district they were strongest in is larger than the rest of the district. They won because they got their friends and neighbors out. Not because they presented any platform or vision in contrast of mine.

Sadly reform took a hit in Woodbury's Republican Party as I will no longer be there to continue to press the leadership to open meetings and be accountable to you. I hope and trust others on the committee who I was aligned with will continue the fight.

However, I really want to thank this morning everyone who did their part in my reelection effort. So many people gave support in and out of Woodbury. All those who came and voted for me yesterday, all those who walked with me in the district, helped me prepare mailers & palm cards did all they could in their own way. Although I may not have won this race but I certainly am a better person knowing I have the support of may great people.

Welcome...

Hello and welcome to my blog....

I have, as time permits, kept this blog updated as a source of information for you my constituents in District 4.

I believe it is important for me as your representative on the Republican Committee to keep you informed of my work on the committee and what the committee in general does.

The present leadership of the committee feels you don’t have a right to know what we do. That’s why they have fought my repeated attempts to open our meetings. As a response to this I created this blog to keep you posted on what we do. But, rest assured I would continue to fight to open the meetings if you elect me for a new term.

In the coming days, I may very well be knocking on your door to tell you a little about myself and to give you a palm card of my platform and what I have been doing on the committee. You will also likely receive some other information from me. I hope you will take some time to look over my campaign material and I hope I will be able to enjoy your support on Tuesday, September 18th. Check back at this blog for more updates between now and Tuesday. If you have a question, please feel free to contact me via e-mail at jbooth75@optonline.net.

Letter to Editor

In case you haven't had a chance to see my letter in the Photo News this past Friday here it is again...

Booth seeks support among Woodbury Republicans

To the editor

My name is Jim Booth. I am a member of the Woodbury Republican Committee from District 4. I have served as a committeeman for all but two of the last 10 years.

In 2005, I was elected by the enrolled Republican voters of District 4 to serve you on the committee. As your representative I have been fighting hard to reform a committee that historically has been closed and unresponsive. In my 2005 campaign I pledged I would introduce a motion to open all committee meetings to the public. I did that. However, the committee struck this down. They then passed a watered-down version to open some meetings.

There can be no openness only some of the time. All meetings should be open and only closed if there is a topic so sensitive it would hurt the party if the meeting were open.

I pledged I would have a blog to keep you posted on the affairs of the committee. I have.

I pledged I would support only the best candidates for office. I did.

I have worked hard to elect those to office that have Woodbury’s best interests at heart. When my opponents mislead voters to support a village which gave us none of the protections they promised and at a cost greater than they said, I worked with others to put together a slate of candidates that would tell us the truth and do all they could to keep the costs we weren’t told about as low as possible.

I will continue my fight to reform our Republican Committee and to make it more accountable to you. If you’re a Republican in District 4, please vote for me, Jim Booth on Tuesday, Sept. 18.

OPEN MEETINGS BECOMES TOPIC AT MEETING

Hello All:

I am still here. It has been awhile since I have posted. Allot has happened. One, we now have a village government in place. I was happy with the results. Stephanie Berean-Weeks and the CommUNITY Party team are hard at work. I was also honored to be designated by the Village Board as Deputy Clerk and Deputy Registrar of the Village.

Two, although I have moved from Hollis Street, I am still residing in Woodbury and will continue to serve as a Member of the Republican Committee. My contact information remains the same. Please e-mail me at electbooth@optonline.net.

The first meeting in many months of the Woodbury Republican Committee was held on Jan 23rd.

There were routine business issues discussed at the meeting and communications received from candidates and elected officials. I, along with Sheila Beadle were designated as a Nominations Committee to solicit support from those who wish to seek election as Republicans in 2007. The offices of Supervisor, two Councilmen, and Highway Supt. are up this year.

However, in keeping with my campaign pledge. I introduced a motion to open all meetings of the Woodbury Republican Committee to the public. I was asked by Chairman Ralph Caruso to draft an open meetings plan. More to come...

VILLAGE ELECTIONS TO BE NOV. 2nd...NEW PARTY FORMS FOR VOTE

The elections for the new Village of Woodbury will be held on Thursday, November 2nd from 9AM-9PM at the Woodbury Senior Center on Rte 105. This WILL BE THE ONLY PLACE WHERE VOTING WILL TAKE PLACE!!

We will be voting on a candidate for Mayor and four candidates for Village Trustee.

Independent political parties are in the process of being formed to run slates.
I am happy to announce that I have been selected as the Secretary of the Woodbury CommUNITY Party. We are running Stephanie Berean-Weeks for Mayor, and Neil Crouse, Mike Kling, Patrick Kinney, and Joann Stabile for Village Trustee. This is a great slate that I know if elected is going to do a fantastic job with running our new village. Each brings a certain talent and expertise to the table. A more detailed platform and biographical information on these candidates will be released in days. I am presently designing a website for the new party and will release it soon.

Stay tuned for more details...

REMEMBERING JACK TAYLOR - 1918-2006

John S. "Jack" Taylor, long time representative of District 4 on the Republican Committee has passed away. Jack died in White Plains on Monday.

Jack was very involved in Woodbury politics for many years. In the late 1950's he was elected one of the three Assessors of the Town of Woodbury. In the Mid-1970's when the three elected posts were abolished, Jack was designated by the Woodbury Town Board to be Woodbury's Sole Appointed Assessor. He served as the appointed Assessor for many more years.

When District 4 was carved out and created in the late 1960's, Jack was designated to serve as one of the two Republican Committeemembers from the new district, alongside Eleanor E. S. Paas. He continued to serve faithfully as the District 4 representative for many more years until recently. I now serve in the seat he held.

I previously served District 4 in the late 1990's and had the privilege to serve alongside Jack as the District reps. Although Jack and I were on opposing slates in the 2001 committee election. I lost handily to Jack, showing he had the commanding respect of the enrolled Republican voters of this district, something I can only hope to one day achieve at the level he did.

Jack was a good man who served our town faithfully and proudly for many years. My condolences go out to his entire family.

VILLAGE OF WOODBURY---DAY ONE

OK kids...Were gonna do day one....

We'll the village has passed. Now what? First see if your job allows any overtime, you may need the extra money :-)

But, all joking aside, you all voted, and you all said you want to be a village. I, as a proud member of the Sons of the American Revolution and descendant of a patriot that fought in the Revolution to give us the freedoms we enjoy respects your choice.

So where do we go from here...

Notice will soon be sent to the N. Y. S. Secretary of State informing them of our decision. Once the Report of Incorporation is filed with the Secretary of State, then the village is officially incorporated.

Then our wonderful Town Clerk who graciously hosted the people of this town for nearly 12 hours of voting, vote counting and vote challenging yesterday appoints a Village Clerk.

60 days after the appointment of the Village Clerk, we will have an election for Mayor and Village Board. Terms will be altered (some shorter some longer) so that a rotating system will go in to effect....similar to how the town board is elected.

As soon as possible following the election of Mayor and a Village Board, the board will formally meet for the first time to appoint a permanent Village Clerk and a Village Treasurer. Other positions that this new village plans to create may also be appointed at such time.

And then we are on our way...

There is much much more that goes in to this process. If you like dry legal reading, consult the Village Laws of the great State of N. Y.

They can be found here...
